Create a Remote Skills Learning Plan
Use the Remote Work Competency Model to Identify Your Goals
🎒 Microlesson
🪞 Reflect
What areas of remote work are the most challenging for you?
💡 Concept
It’s back-to-school season in many parts of the world, and even if you’ve been out of school for many years, it’s a good time to think about what you’d like to learn or improve in the next year.
Upskilling in areas specific to remote work will enhance your employability in increasingly flexible workplaces, give you the tools you need to succeed, and help you to navigate a dynamic and often isolated work landscape.
Being aware of your ability level in remote work skills is a prerequisite for improving them. The Workplaceless Remote Work Competency Model lists and categorizes the skills that are essential to succeeding in a remote or hybrid team. Dedicate time this week to assess your remote work skills by reflecting on the following for each remote work competency:
Understanding of its relevance to success in distributed teams
Ability to demonstrably apply skill in a remote environment
Ability to coach others in developing their skills
Identify areas that are particularly challenging for you and determine which ones are the highest priority to improve. Create an upskilling plan by identifying resources, activities, and courses that will help you close your remote skills gaps.
🎬 Take Action
Use the Remote Work Competency Model to identify skills you want to develop.
Identify internal or external resources that can help you develop those skills (Workplaceless courses are already mapped to those competencies in the Competency Model).
Create a written plan that includes your goals, a timeline, and the resources you’ll need.
