🙌 Share Weekly Accomplishments with Your Distributed Team

Increase the Visibility of Your Contributions and Progress

🎒 Microlesson

🪞 Reflect

You work all week, checking things off your list and making progress towards your goals. Does anyone else on your distributed team know what you’ve accomplished?

💡 Concept

When you work remotely, summarizing your weekly contributions and sharing them with your team is a good practice for several reasons:

  1. It increases the visibility of your work within the team, ensuring that your efforts are recognized and appreciated by colleagues and supervisors.

  2. In a remote setting where physical presence and direct observation may be limited, summarizing contributions serves as a way to showcase productivity and progress.

  3. It fosters transparency and accountability within the team, as it allows everyone to understand what tasks have been completed, what milestones have been achieved, and what challenges have been encountered. This transparency promotes collaboration and alignment on shared goals.

  4. It provides an opportunity for you to reflect on your own progress and identify areas for improvement, ultimately enhancing your productivity and efficiency.

By sharing weekly contributions in a distributed team, you strengthen team cohesion, increase trust, and demonstrate value to the organization.

🎬 Take Action

Take these steps to summarize your weekly contributions with your distributed team:

  • Reflect on all that you’ve accomplished in the past week. Review your calendar, project management tool, notebook, or any other tool you use to track your work.

  • Summarize your contributions. Write a short summary or bulleted list of your accomplishments (or record a short video) and the impact they have had on your individual and team goals.

  • Share your contributions in a public channel.  Start a weekly update thread where you and your other team members share weekly updates.

  • Refer to your weekly summaries in 1:1s. Use your weekly summaries as running documentation of your contributions to the team. These will come in handy during conversations about performance and goals!
