How do scheduling and time zones impact your ability to meet and work together as a team?
π‘ Concept
If youβre a remote worker on a distributed team, chances are high that you work with people in different time zones. Even if youβre very used to coordinating with your immediate team membersβ schedules, it can be easy to forget to accommodate the time zones of clients, contractors, and colleagues outside of your team.Β
Confirming someone elseβs time zone whenever you schedule a meeting is essential, and proactively sharing your own time zone is helpful, too. Hereβs why:Β
π It makes scheduling easier and less prone to error.
π It reminds you that your time zone is not everyone's time zone.
π It also serves as a reminder for others to take time zones into consideration in their communications and scheduling.Β
Use time zone conversion tools to help make this task easier.Β
π¬ Take Action
Add your time zone to your email signature.Β
Add your time zone to your profile on your team's go-to communication platform (Slack, Teams, etc.).
Map out your teamβs time zones when creating a team working agreement.Β
Don't forget to update your information if you're a digital nomad or if you're just working from a different time zone for a while!
